Week 9 - Choreographers Piece #2
For this choreographer piece I decided to look at Wolf Works Corps choreographed by Wayne McGregor. I found this piece very very chaotic and busy due to the frantic music and the patterns/pathways of the dancers, for example at the beginning of the dance piece the dancers, in pairs, move diagonally across the floor while other duets join in from different angles and directions which confuses the audience. In addition there are many leg and arm extensions from different positions and levels this helps create very abstract movements while still keeping it classical and I think that is Wayne McGregors style, exploring the mixture of ballet and contemporary, which in my options is becoming very popular in today’s industry. The dynamics differ throughout the piece, for example some movements are very soft and subtitle, an example of this would be a developpe or a body gesture, however some moments juxtapose that by them being shape and direct e.g kick. Infra is genuinely more soft and g...
Week 2 - Choreographic Devices
During this weeks lesson we experimented with specific choreographic techniques such as: -canon -unison -complementary -contrast -retrograde -reverse -inverse -improvisation around a theme -repetition -embellishment -argumentation -fragmentation -rondo form -accumulation -climax -highlight ,in order to help develop our sequences from last weeks lesson From last weeks lesson we used the same sequences from our partner work and modified it by selecting four choreographic techniques to include within out sequences in order to further our knowledge. Me and my partner chose unison, canon, contrast and highlight. From here we performed our sequence to the class, who then had to guess which four choreographic devices we had chosen. However in order for our peers to guess correctly we had to make sure that our selected devices were clear and well demonstrated, luckily our peers guessed 3/4 so to improve for next time, i would make out highlight a larger movement in order t...
I love you idea on setting your self goals of using more choreographic devises. What decision led you to do this?
ReplyDeleteYou said you used Wayne McGregor's method of improvisation which I think is an excellent idea as you have incorporated your chosen practitioner to make it more personal. What happened when you did this? Did you find it useful?
When getting stuck with my choreography i automatically thought of which processes I could used in order to lead and direct me into the correct pathway. When improving I loved seeing what parts of my improvisation I hated and what parts I really loved and wanted to include. So overall I found improvising very helpful when choreographing my dance.
DeleteI really like the way you presented this vlog and your work with devices to aid a positive creative mindset for the lesson.
ReplyDeleteAs preparation as helped you create, what is your next step before the next creative session?
My next step is to looking and reflect on my dance to see if I can adapt or change any parts in which I no longer feel goes with the music, stimulus etc. I really want to find moments with in the dance where I can portray my story line across.
DeleteI really like how you improvise to the music whilst videoing yourself in order to pick out movements you like. I think it would be beneficial if you could include a snippet of this improvisation.
ReplyDeleteI will get this improvisation video done today, thank you for your comment Sadie!
