Week 9 - Choreographers Piece #2
For this choreographer piece I decided to look at Wolf Works Corps choreographed by Wayne McGregor. I found this piece very very chaotic and busy due to the frantic music and the patterns/pathways of the dancers, for example at the beginning of the dance piece the dancers, in pairs, move diagonally across the floor while other duets join in from different angles and directions which confuses the audience. In addition there are many leg and arm extensions from different positions and levels this helps create very abstract movements while still keeping it classical and I think that is Wayne McGregors style, exploring the mixture of ballet and contemporary, which in my options is becoming very popular in today’s industry. The dynamics differ throughout the piece, for example some movements are very soft and subtitle, an example of this would be a developpe or a body gesture, however some moments juxtapose that by them being shape and direct e.g kick. This is a very interesting vlog, well done Lucy. I like how you interact with the camera and how you make your words extremely clear. I find it interesting that Wayne infuses ballet with contemporary to form his style. Do you prefer the traditional classical style or Wayne's style better? Why?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I enjoy both styles due to them allowing me to show and explore different values of dance. For example Ballet allows me to really focus on my technique and precision where as the collaboration of both ballet and contemporary allows me to express my dance movements in a way that I cant thorough ballet, for example floor work.
DeleteYou have a very relaxed and chatty style to your vlogs which I think makes the subject easy to understand. What impact do you think Wayne Mc Gregor has had on the dance industry and do you think his work has opened up the dance world to a new audience?
ReplyDeleteI defiantly think Wayne McGregor has opened up the dance world to a new audience due to him now being apart of the GCSE spectrum, this allows the younger generation to familiarize themselves with this neo-classical style allowing ballet to become more free and expressive.
DeleteThis is a very good vlog! You have clearly have shown how Wayne Mcgregor has impacted the industry. You spoke about how Mcgregor uses a mix of ballet and contemporary, is this something you would consider using in your own choreography?
ReplyDeleteYes! Using the collaboration of both ballet and contemporary will defiantly be seen throughout my work!
DeleteThis is an excellent vlog Lucy. You have clearly discussed the impact of your chosen choreographer and your thoughts and feelings upon this. You also present your ideas upon Wayne McGregor's unique style and how it effects the audience.
ReplyDeleteDo you feel the way Wayne McGregor fuses together the styles of ballet and contemporary works well?
I enjoyed watching this vlog. Well done.
Yes I feel althought the mixture of dance styles -ballet and contemporary work very well due to there being new possibilities and movements, this allows the audience to gain a new experience as they may have never seen anything like this before.
