Blog - Week 4 - BTUK - Lucy Imamzade
This week,
we looked at the movement of water and more specifically rain. We looked at how
we could mimic its features in order to create a short sequence through the use
of improvisation.
First, I looked
at the random drops of rain sliding along the glass windows, to replicate this,
I used small and fragile movements with sudden but small outburst of energy. An
example of this would be sharp head or arm movements. This clearly demonstrate how
one raindrop gathers energy and starts to slowly move down the wet window. Personally,
I really struggled to improvise these movements without repeating myself and
without having a story to improvise too. However, to overcome this I focused on
how rain makes me feel in order to develop my improvisation. By myself I came
up with sad, unmotivated and tired, I represented this by doing small movements
and a lot of floor work.
Next I focused
on other raindrops interacting with a singular raindrop for example they may
meet gain weight and fall to the bottom of the window or how they meet and gain
speed and energy. To demonstrate this, I started using my peers around me and
connecting our movements still we became one. Automatically our movements became
quicker and more energized however we slowly moved down to the floor due to the
raindrops collecting weight causing them to fall to the bottom of the window.
Overall, I found
this task a challenge in comparison to the other creative tasks we had to do
due to the improvisation part. This was hard for me as I kept repeating my
movements however looking at how I could improve or change this, I could look
at my peers as they could inspire new ideas reducing the risk of me repeating the
same movements. My favorite creative task has been creating sequences due to
word of numbers which has correlating vague steps as it gave me a guideline of
where and how to start your choreography however you’re free to use your
creativity and imagination!

The difference between your improvisation in a solo and duet for the raindrops is well explained. Why do you think your movements had more energy when you danced with a partner and what choreography did you use to show this?
ReplyDeletei danced with more energy when with a partner to express the idea of gravity pulling down the raindrop due to it getting heavier therefore moving faster. To show this we used fast contact movements and lifts.
DeleteI think the way your blog post is set out is very clear for the audience. I also like how you added pictures so that the audience can visualise the rain. Did you find improvising as a group harder than when we improvised individually? Why was this?
ReplyDeleteYes i found improvising in a group a lot harder due to you not knowing what the person in front or to the side of you is going to do, however i fell although improvising in a group creates more creative possibilities than when improvising individually.
DeleteI like how descriptive this blog is and it is really clear to the audience about what we explored in the class. When improvising, did you prefer doing this as a solo or as a group and what challenges did you face when doing this? Well done!

DeleteExcellent work! How did this creative task (rain concept) relate to the practitioner? Reflecting back to the task, please go into detail discussing what we did during the lesson as well as your thoughts towards the video’s we watched.
ReplyDeleteLooking back at your reflective notes on each creative exercise, summarise how you responded to each task set. Think about; what did you find easy or difficult, was your movement readable to your audience, have these processes allowed you to form your own ideas for your own creative processes to create movement? If so, what are your new ideas?
Our rain concept related to the practitioner due to them looking at abstract objects in order to help create a dance piece. First we looked at at Crystal Pite, here she discussed what work atmosphere she likes working in for example she explains how she like having her family in the room as she feels more inspired. In addition she also said how she is inspired by the music and how all her dances are choreographed by the music itself. Then we looked at Wayne McGregor and how he is inspired by Charles Darwin- a body in evolution, slowly becoming unfamiliar. I also picked out while watching his video that he pays extreme attention to detail during his choreographic process making sure there is extensions, resistance and risk-taking. Finally he also said how he creates the movement before the music and how improvisation is a huge choreographic process for him.
