blog- week 1- BTUK- Lucy Imamzade
Today, during class, me and my peers focused on different choreographic techniques in order to expand and develop our knowledge and understanding when it comes to choreographing our own dances.
The first choreographic technique we focused on was improvisation, this is when you design sequences and movements spontaneously to a particular piece of music. I really enjoyed this device as it allowed me to be imaginative with different parts of my body, for example back bends and distortions. In my opinion, I was easily able to understand the story behind the song which allowed me to change the mood of my movements. An example of this would be slow and low movements to correlate the a depressing song whereas in comparison a happier song wold require larger movements and jumps. However to improve on this choreographic device I would ensure I have more confidence as this would encourage me to use floor work and to use a larger area of space which will further the use of larger movements and larger jumps. Overall I really enjoyed experimenting with this technique as it allowed freedom and creativity within the class.
The next choreographic device involved creating letters with different parts of my body for example arms, legs, feet, toes, hands, head, elbows etc. I chose my name 'Lucy', with this I had to create the shape of each letter with my body starting of small and slowly getting bigger. This developed a small sequence of movements which I could develop into either repetition or create a larger sequence out of.
In addition, we also used a sequence of numbers to develop small phrases with each number correlating a movement:
0- Shunt
1-Stillness
2-Jump
3-Turn
4-Off balance
5-Roll
6-Swing
7-Kick
8-Change
9-Any
In class I decided to use my phone number, personally this is my favorite technique so far due to easily being able to create a simple sequence of movements which can then be developed and personalized into a more advanced sequence. It also allowed me the interpret the movement into anything of my choice, this further developed my knowledge and understanding. Then we modified and developed this by experimenting with different qualities:
-impulse
-impact
-release
Personally I decided to chose impact as it allowed me to use harsh and dynamic movement within my work. Overall I really enjoyed experimenting with each technique as it allowed me to interpret different emotions into my sequences in order to portray different story lines and narratives.

This is an excellent start to your creative blog posts! You have clearly addressed most of the questions set in the task, analysing your thoughts and feelings as well as stated the purpose of each task completed within the lesson. I am also very impressed with the spelling and grammar used throughout and the structure of your post.
ReplyDeletePlease use the post I uploaded on my blog if you need help uploading the videos. After uploading, it would be beneficial to include a sentence or two connecting the blogs content to the videos so the reader can clearly understand what they portray.
You could also improve your analysis of your own strengths and weaknesses, although throughout your post you have highlighted your thoughts and feelings as asked within the task, you haven’t really gone into much detail about your strengths and weaknesses that you have recognised from the lesson.
Please recognise your strengths and how they assisted you within the task. As well as discussing how you could improve your recognised weaknesses over the course of the module. Also consider what you would change if you performed this task again.
Nonetheless, your post is of high quality and I am very much looking forward to seeing what you produce in the coming months.
Miss Norman
I think one of my strengths in the task was definitely creating difficult and advanced sequences from simple instructions and steps. I feel although I also really excelled in making my chosen dynamics very clear to the audience watching. My strengths assisted me in this class due to it giving me great confidence, this allowed to to not only perform better however also create more choreography. Unlike when I was facing my weaknesses. I found making letters with my body very difficult however to improve for next time I will look at maybe how i draw the shape instead if the shape itself for example if its all straight edges or whether it has any curves.
DeleteI thought your post was really descriptive and shows what you have taken from the lesson, without seeing your choreography I can still get a feel for it.
